The Big Ditch

The Lion has a way across the first ditch, and the Scarecrow has an idea for the second. But in the darkest part of the forest, something is listening.

- Narrator 早上，五个朋友站在大沟前，谁都没有说话。
Zǎoshang, wǔ gè péngyou zhàn zài dà gōu qián, shéi dōu méiyǒu shuōhuà.
That morning, the five friends stood at the edge of the great ditch, and nobody said a word.
- Cowardly Lion 这个……我想，我能跳过去。
Zhège… wǒ xiǎng, wǒ néng tiào guòqu.
Well... I think I could jump it.
- Scarecrow 太好了！那你带我们过去，一个一个来！
Tài hǎo le! Nà nǐ dài wǒmen guòqu, yí gè yí gè lái!
Wonderful! Then carry us over, one at a time!

Wǒ hěn dǎnxiǎo… kěshì wǒ qù! Shéi xiān lái?
I'm a coward... but I'll do it! Who's first?
- Scarecrow 我先来！我是稻草做的，掉到石头上也没事！
Wǒ xiān lái! Wǒ shì dàocǎo zuò de, diào dào shítou shang yě méi shì!
Me first! I'm made of straw. If I fall on the rocks, I'll be fine!
- Scarecrow 你怎么不跑？你先跑一跑！
Nǐ zěnme bù pǎo? Nǐ xiān pǎo yi pǎo!
Why don't you take a run at it? Get a running start!
- Cowardly Lion 我们狮子，不是这样做的。
Wǒmen shīzi, bú shì zhèyàng zuò de.
That's not the way we lions do things.
- Scarecrow 到了！我们到了！啊，我又倒了！
Dào le! Wǒmen dào le! À, wǒ yòu dǎo le!
We made it! We're across! Oops, I fell over again!
- Dorothy 托托，别怕。狮子，我抓着你的毛！
Tuōtuō, bié pà. Shīzi, wǒ zhuā zhe nǐ de máo!
Don't be scared, Toto. Lion, I'm holding on to your mane!
- Tin Woodman 我是最后一个。狮子，你还行吗？
Wǒ shì zuìhòu yí gè. Shīzi, nǐ hái xíng ma?
I'm the last one. Lion, can you manage one more?
- Cowardly Lion 行……第三次了……好累……
Xíng… dì sān cì le… hǎo lèi…
Yes... that's the third time... so tired...
- Narrator 前边的森林里，树很多很多，什么都看不见。
Qiánbian de sēnlín lǐ, shù hěn duō hěn duō, shénme dōu kàn bu jiàn.
Further on, the trees grew so thick that they couldn't see a thing.
- Dorothy 你们听……那是什么？
Nǐmen tīng… nà shì shénme?
Listen... what's that?
- Cowardly Lion 这儿住着虎头熊……
Zhèr zhù zhe Hǔtóuxióng…
This is where the tiger-bears live...
- Dorothy 虎头熊？虎头熊是什么？
Hǔtóuxióng? Hǔtóuxióng shì shénme?
Tiger-bears? What are tiger-bears?
- Cowardly Lion 它们有熊的身子，老虎的头。比熊还大，比老虎还快！
Tāmen yǒu xióng de shēnzi, lǎohǔ de tóu. Bǐ xióng hái dà, bǐ lǎohǔ hái kuài!
They have bodies like bears and heads like tigers. They're bigger than bears and faster than tigers!
- Dorothy 别怕，狮子。我们都在这儿，我们是你的朋友。
Bié pà, Shīzi. Wǒmen dōu zài zhèr, wǒmen shì nǐ de péngyou.
Don't be scared, Lion. We're all here. We're your friends.
- Toto 汪汪！汪汪！
Wāngwāng! Wāngwāng!
Woof woof! Woof woof!
- Cowardly Lion 托托，别叫！虎头熊会听见的！
Tuōtuō, bié jiào! Hǔtóuxióng huì tīngjiàn de!
Toto, stop barking! The tiger-bears will hear you!
- Scarecrow 看，前边还有一条大沟！
Kàn, qiánbian hái yǒu yì tiáo dà gōu!
Look, there's another ditch up ahead!
- Cowardly Lion 这条太大了，我跳不过去……
Zhè tiáo tài dà le, wǒ tiào bu guòqu…
This one's far too wide. I can't jump it...
- Dorothy 那怎么办？
Nà zěnme bàn?
Then what do we do?
- Scarecrow 我没有脑子……可是我有一个主意！
Wǒ méiyǒu nǎozi… kěshì wǒ yǒu yí gè zhǔyi!
I have no brains... but I have an idea!
- Scarecrow 铁皮人，用斧头砍这边的大树。树倒了，我们就有桥了！
Tiěpírén, yòng fǔtóu kǎn zhèbiān de dàshù. Shù dǎo le, wǒmen jiù yǒu qiáo le!
Tin Woodman, chop down the big tree on this side with your axe. When it falls across, we'll have a bridge!
- Cowardly Lion 好主意！你的头里，真的是稻草吗？
Hǎo zhǔyi! Nǐ de tóu lǐ, zhēn de shì dàocǎo ma?
What a good idea! Is that head of yours really full of straw?
- Tin Woodman 大树倒了！我们有桥了！
Dàshù dǎo le! Wǒmen yǒu qiáo le!
There it goes! Now we have a bridge!
- Dorothy 托托，我们先走！你们快来！
Tuōtuō, wǒmen xiān zǒu! Nǐmen kuài lái!
Toto, we'll go first! Come on, everyone, hurry!
- Scarecrow 一个一个走！别看下边！
Yí gè yí gè zǒu! Bié kàn xiàbian!
One at a time! Don't look down!
- Cowardly Lion 虎头熊！两只虎头熊来了！
Hǔtóuxióng! Liǎng zhī Hǔtóuxióng lái le!
Tiger-bears! Two tiger-bears are coming!
