Beauty rides to the palace sure that the Beast will eat her. Instead she finds a room with her name on the door, a mirror that shows her home, and a Beast with a question.

Dì èr tiān zǎoshang, Měi'ér hé bàba yào zǒu le. Liǎng gè jiějie dàshēng de kū le qǐlái.
The next morning, Beauty and Father were ready to leave. Her two sisters began to wail loudly.
- Second Sister 大姐，洋葱给我一点儿……我哭不出来！
Dàjiě, yángcōng gěi wǒ yìdiǎnr… Wǒ kū bù chūlái!
Big Sister, give me some of that onion… I can't squeeze out a single tear!
- Eldest Sister 小声点儿！快拿洋葱擦眼睛！
Xiǎoshēng diǎnr! Kuài ná yángcōng cā yǎnjing!
Keep your voice down! Quick, rub your eyes with the onion!
- Narrator 晚上，他们到了宫殿。桌子上放着两个人的饭。
Wǎnshang, tāmen dào le gōngdiàn. Zhuōzi shang fàngzhe liǎng gè rén de fàn.
That evening they reached the palace. On the table, supper was set for two.
- Beauty 爸爸，这么多好吃的……野兽是想让我吃胖一点儿，再吃我吧？
Bàba, zhème duō hǎochī de… Yěshòu shì xiǎng ràng wǒ chī pàng yìdiǎnr, zài chī wǒ ba?
Father, look at all this food… I suppose the Beast wants to fatten me up before he eats me?
- Father 美儿，别说了……爸爸一口也吃不下。
Měi'ér, bié shuō le… Bàba yì kǒu yě chī bú xià.
Beauty, don't say such things… I can't eat a single bite.
- Narrator 这时，门外有很大的声音。野兽来了。
Zhèshí, mén wài yǒu hěn dà de shēngyīn. Yěshòu lái le.
Just then, there was a great noise outside the door. The Beast had come.
- The Beast 你就是他的小女儿？你是自己愿意来的吗？
Nǐ jiù shì tā de xiǎo nǚ'ér? Nǐ shì zìjǐ yuànyì lái de ma?
So you're his youngest daughter? Did you come here of your own free will?
- Beauty 是……是的。我是自己愿意来的。
Shì… shì de. Wǒ shì zìjǐ yuànyì lái de.
Y-yes. I came because I chose to.
- The Beast 你是一个好女孩。老人家，明天早上你就回家，以后别再来了。
Nǐ shì yí gè hǎo nǚhái. Lǎorénjia, míngtiān zǎoshang nǐ jiù huí jiā, yǐhòu bié zài lái le.
You are a good girl. Old man, go home tomorrow morning, and never come back here.
- The Beast 再见，美儿。
Zàijiàn, Měi'ér.

Dì èr tiān, bàba kūzhe zǒu le. Gōngdiàn lǐ zhǐ yǒu Měi'ér yí gè rén le.
The next day, Father left in tears. Now Beauty was all alone in the palace.
- Beauty 野兽今天晚上就会吃我吧……哭也没有用。我去看看这个宫殿！
Yěshòu jīntiān wǎnshang jiù huì chī wǒ ba… Kū yě méiyǒu yòng. Wǒ qù kànkan zhège gōngdiàn!
The Beast will probably eat me tonight… Crying won't help. I'm going to explore this palace!
- Beauty 咦，这个门上写着“美儿的房间”！
Yí, zhège mén shang xiězhe “Měi'ér de fángjiān”!
Oh! This door says "Beauty's Room"!
- Beauty 这么多书！要是野兽今天就吃我，他为什么给我这么多书呢？
Zhème duō shū! Yàoshi Yěshòu jīntiān jiù chī wǒ, tā wèishénme gěi wǒ zhème duō shū ne?
So many books! If the Beast meant to eat me today, why would he give me so many books?
- Beauty 这本书上写着金色的字：“美儿，你想要什么，就说吧。”
Zhè běn shū shang xiězhe jīnsè de zì: “Měi'ér, nǐ xiǎng yào shénme, jiù shuō ba.”
There are golden letters on this book: "Beauty, whatever you wish for, just say it."
- Beauty 我想要什么？我只想看看爸爸……
Wǒ xiǎng yào shénme? Wǒ zhǐ xiǎng kànkan bàba…
What do I wish for? I only want to see Father…
- Narrator 这时，房间里的大镜子亮了。镜子里，是美儿的家！
Zhèshí, fángjiān lǐ de dà jìngzi liàng le. Jìngzi lǐ, shì Měi'ér de jiā!
At that moment, the big mirror in the room began to glow. In the mirror was Beauty's home!
- Beauty 爸爸到家了，他好难过……可是姐姐们，好像很高兴？
Bàba dào jiā le, tā hǎo nánguò… Kěshì jiějiemen, hǎoxiàng hěn gāoxìng?
Father is home, and he's so sad… But my sisters look almost happy?
- Narrator 晚上九点，野兽又来了。
Wǎnshang jiǔ diǎn, Yěshòu yòu lái le.
At nine o'clock that evening, the Beast came again.
- The Beast 美儿，我可以看着你吃晚饭吗？
Měi'ér, wǒ kěyǐ kànzhe nǐ chī wǎnfàn ma?
Beauty, may I watch you eat your supper?
- Beauty 你……你是这里的主人啊。
Nǐ… nǐ shì zhèlǐ de zhǔrén a.
You… you're the master here.
- The Beast 不，这里的主人是你。你不想看见我，我马上就走。
Bù, zhèlǐ de zhǔrén shì nǐ. Nǐ bù xiǎng kànjiàn wǒ, wǒ mǎshàng jiù zǒu.
No, you are the mistress here. If you don't want to see me, I'll leave at once.
- The Beast 美儿，你说，我是不是很难看？
Měi'ér, nǐ shuō, wǒ shì bu shì hěn nánkàn?
Beauty, tell me honestly: am I very ugly?
- Beauty 是的，我不会说假话。可是我觉得，你的心很好。
Shì de, wǒ bú huì shuō jiǎhuà. Kěshì wǒ juéde, nǐ de xīn hěn hǎo.
Yes, you are. I can't tell a lie. But I think you have a very good heart.
- The Beast 心好有什么用？我又难看，又笨。我只是一个野兽。
Xīn hǎo yǒu shénme yòng? Wǒ yòu nánkàn, yòu bèn. Wǒ zhǐ shì yí gè yěshòu.
What good is a good heart? I'm ugly, and I'm stupid too. I'm only a beast.
- Beauty 笨的人，不知道自己笨。你知道，所以你不笨！
Bèn de rén, bù zhīdào zìjǐ bèn. Nǐ zhīdào, suǒyǐ nǐ bú bèn!
Stupid people never know they're stupid. You know it, so you can't be stupid!
- Beauty 有的人样子很好看，可是心很坏。你比他们好多了！
Yǒu de rén yàngzi hěn hǎokàn, kěshì xīn hěn huài. Nǐ bǐ tāmen hǎo duō le!
Some people have handsome faces but wicked hearts. You're far better than they are!
- The Beast 真的吗？……美儿，谢谢你。
Zhēn de ma?… Měi'ér, xièxie nǐ.
Really?… Thank you, Beauty.
- Narrator 美儿吃着饭，已经不那么怕他了。这时，野兽忽然问了一句话。
Měi'ér chīzhe fàn, yǐjīng bú nàme pà tā le. Zhèshí, Yěshòu hūrán wèn le yí jù huà.
As Beauty ate, she found she was hardly afraid of him anymore. Then, all of a sudden, the Beast asked her something.
- The Beast 美儿……你愿意嫁给我吗？
Měi'ér… nǐ yuànyì jià gěi wǒ ma?
Beauty… will you marry me?
