The Hunt Begins

Jonathan spots the Count on a London street. Van Helsing gathers friends to search the old house at Carfax, and Mina hears something in the dark before dawn.

London, autumn. Jonathan had come home safely and married Mina. One day they were walking along Piccadilly.
- Mina 乔纳森，你看这些漂亮的橱窗！我们进去买一顶帽子，好吗？
Qiáonàsēn, nǐ kàn zhèxiē piàoliang de chúchuāng! Wǒmen jìnqù mǎi yì dǐng màozi, hǎo ma?
Jonathan, look at these lovely shop windows! Shall we go in and buy a hat?
- Jonathan Harker 米娜……不要回头。街对面那个人……
Mǐnà… bú yào huítóu. Jiē duìmiàn nàge rén…
Mina... don't turn around. That man across the street...

It's him! He looks younger than before, and his moustache has turned dark. But I know those eyes.
- Mina 是德古拉伯爵？他真的来英国了！
Shì Dégǔlā bójué? Tā zhēnde lái Yīngguó le!
Count Dracula? He really has come to England!
- Jonathan Harker 他站在那里看我们。他笑了……然后走进人群里，不见了。
Tā zhàn zài nàlǐ kàn wǒmen. Tā xiào le… ránhòu zǒu jìn rénqún lǐ, bú jiàn le.
He stood there watching us. He smiled... then he walked into the crowd and was gone.
- Mina 别怕，乔纳森，我在这里。我们现在就去找范海辛教授。
Bié pà, Qiáonàsēn, wǒ zài zhèlǐ. Wǒmen xiànzài jiù qù zhǎo Fàn Hǎixīn jiàoshòu.
Don't be afraid, Jonathan, I'm here. Let's go and find Professor Van Helsing right now.
- Jonathan Harker 你说得对。以前我一个人害怕，现在我们有很多朋友。

You're right. Before, I was afraid alone. Now we have many friends.

Let's go! Bring your diary too. The professor will want to read it.

Péngyoumen, zhè jiù shì Kǎfǎkèsī, bójué zài Lúndūn mǎi de fángzi. Xiǎoxīn jiǎoxià.
Friends, this is Carfax, the house the Count bought in London. Watch your step.
- Quincey Morris 教授，这地方又旧又脏，连老鼠都不想住！我的枪准备好了。
Jiàoshòu, zhè dìfang yòu jiù yòu zāng, lián lǎoshǔ dōu bù xiǎng zhù! Wǒ de qiāng zhǔnbèi hǎo le.
Professor, this place is so old and dirty even the mice wouldn't live here! My rifle's ready.
- Professor Van Helsing 昆西先生，请把枪放下。这一次，枪没有用。
Kūnxī xiānsheng, qǐng bǎ qiāng fàng xià. Zhè yí cì, qiāng méiyǒu yòng.
Mr. Quincey, please put the rifle down. This time, it is no use.
- Quincey Morris 没有用？那我用什么打他？用我的帽子吗？
Méiyǒu yòng? Nà wǒ yòng shénme dǎ tā? Yòng wǒ de màozi ma?
No use? Then what do I fight him with? My hat?
- Professor Van Helsing 用这个。这是教堂里的圣饼。白天，吸血鬼一定要睡在自己的泥土里。
Yòng zhège. Zhè shì jiàotáng lǐ de shèngbǐng. Báitiān, xīxuèguǐ yídìng yào shuì zài zìjǐ de nítǔ lǐ.
With this. It is holy bread from a church. By day, a vampire must sleep in its own earth.
- Arthur 那些长箱子里全是泥土。一共有多少个？
Nàxiē cháng xiāngzi lǐ quán shì nítǔ. Yígòng yǒu duōshao gè?
Those long boxes are full of earth. How many are there?
- Professor Van Helsing 伯爵在伦敦的房子里一共放了五十个。
Bójué zài Lúndūn de fángzi lǐ yígòng fàng le wǔshí gè.
In his houses across London, the Count has placed fifty of them.
- Arthur 五十个？我们要找多久？
Wǔshí gè? Wǒmen yào zhǎo duō jiǔ?
Fifty? How long will it take us?
- Professor Van Helsing 我们一个一个找。我在每个箱子里放一小块圣饼，伯爵就不能再睡在里面了。
Wǒmen yí gè yí gè zhǎo. Wǒ zài měi gè xiāngzi lǐ fàng yì xiǎo kuài shèngbǐng, bójué jiù bù néng zài shuì zài lǐmiàn le.
We find them one by one. I put a small piece of holy bread in each box, and the Count can never sleep in it again.
- Quincey Morris 就像在他的床上放一根针！好办法，教授。
Jiù xiàng zài tā de chuáng shàng fàng yì gēn zhēn! Hǎo bànfǎ, jiàoshòu.
Like leaving a needle in his bed! Good plan, Professor.
- Professor Van Helsing 差不多。来吧，我们先做这一个。
Chàbuduō. Lái ba, wǒmen xiān zuò zhè yí gè.
Almost. Come, let's do this one first.
- Arthur 今天做完这个，明天做下一个。我们要让他没有地方睡觉。
Jīntiān zuò wán zhè ge, míngtiān zuò xià yí gè. Wǒmen yào ràng tā méiyǒu dìfang shuìjiào.
We finish this one today, and the next tomorrow. We'll leave him nowhere to sleep.
- Narrator 几天后，天亮以前，米娜坐在床边，脸色很白。窗户开着，风吹动了窗帘。
Jǐ tiān hòu, tiān liàng yǐqián, Mǐnà zuò zài chuángbiān, liǎnsè hěn bái. Chuānghu kāizhe, fēng chuī dòng le chuānglián.
A few days later, before dawn, Mina sat on the edge of her bed, her face very pale. The window was open and the wind stirred the curtain.
- Professor Van Helsing 米娜夫人，你感觉怎么样？
Mǐnà fūrén, nǐ gǎnjué zěnmeyàng?
Madam Mina, how do you feel?
- Mina 教授，我觉得他来过。我做了一个很长的梦，醒来的时候，很冷。
Jiàoshòu, wǒ juéde tā lái guò. Wǒ zuò le yí gè hěn cháng de mèng, xǐng lái de shíhou, hěn lěng.
Professor, I think he came here. I had a long dream, and when I woke, I was cold.
- Dr. Seward 米娜夫人，您的窗户怎么开着？
Mǐnà fūrén, nín de chuānghu zěnme kāizhe?
Madam Mina, why is your window open?
- Professor Van Helsing 别怕。米娜夫人，请闭上眼睛，安静一会儿。想着伯爵，告诉我你听到什么。
Bié pà. Mǐnà fūrén, qǐng bì shàng yǎnjing, ānjìng yí huìr. Xiǎng zhe bójué, gàosu wǒ nǐ tīngdào shénme.
Don't be afraid. Madam Mina, please close your eyes and be still for a moment. Think of the Count, and tell me what you hear.
- Mina 我听到水……很多水的声音。
Wǒ tīngdào shuǐ… hěn duō shuǐ de shēngyīn.
I hear water... the sound of a great deal of water.
- Mina 还有木头在响，吱吱的，像一条船。
Háiyǒu mùtou zài xiǎng, zhīzhī de, xiàng yì tiáo chuán.
And wood is creaking, like a ship.
- Professor Van Helsing 很好。还有呢？
Hěn hǎo. Háiyǒu ne?
Good. What else?
- Mina 有人在跑，有绳子在响……天很黑。他在船上，教授。
Yǒu rén zài pǎo, yǒu shéngzi zài xiǎng… tiān hěn hēi. Tā zài chuán shàng, jiàoshòu.
Someone is running, ropes are creaking... it's very dark. He's on a ship, Professor.
- Dr. Seward 在船上？他要去哪儿？
Zài chuán shàng? Tā yào qù nǎr?
On a ship? Where is he going?
- Mina 他要回家，回他的城堡！他怕我们，所以要回到自己的地方。
Tā yào huíjiā, huí tā de chéngbǎo! Tā pà wǒmen, suǒyǐ yào huí dào zìjǐ de dìfang.
He's going home, to his castle! He's afraid of us, so he's going back to his own place.
- Professor Van Helsing 那我们也要回去！我们一定要比他更快到城堡，在他到以前就等着他！
Nà wǒmen yě yào huíqù! Wǒmen yídìng yào bǐ tā gèng kuài dào chéngbǎo, zài tā dào yǐqián jiù děng zhe tā!
Then we go too! We must reach the castle faster than he does, and be waiting before he arrives!
