The Ship Without a Crew
没有人的船
A storm drives a ship with no crew into Whitby harbor, and a huge dog leaps ashore. That night, Mina wakes to find Lucy's bed empty.

On a summer afternoon in Whitby, a little town on the north coast of England, the wind blew hard.
- Lucy 米娜，你又在写日记了！你的日记比我的帽子还多！天气这么好，别再想了。
Mǐnà, nǐ yòu zài xiě rìjì le! Nǐ de rìjì bǐ wǒ de màozi hái duō! Tiānqì zhème hǎo, bié zài xiǎng le.
Mina, you're writing in your diary again! You have more diaries than I have hats! The weather is so lovely. Stop brooding.
- Mina 我没有办法不想。乔纳森已经三个星期没有写信了，也没有说他什么时候回来。
Wǒ méiyǒu bànfǎ bù xiǎng. Qiáonàsēn yǐjīng sān gè xīngqī méiyǒu xiěxìn le, yě méiyǒu shuō tā shénme shíhou huílái.
I can't help it. Jonathan hasn't written for three weeks, and hasn't said when he's coming back.

Lucy, don't joke. I'm really worried about him.
- Lucy 好好好，对不起。那我告诉你一个好消息，让你高兴一下。
Hǎo hǎo hǎo, duìbùqǐ. Nà wǒ gàosu nǐ yí gè hǎo xiāoxi, ràng nǐ gāoxìng yíxià.
All right, all right, I'm sorry. Let me tell you some good news to cheer you up.

- Lucy 昨天有三位先生跟我求婚！三位！他们都很好，可是我只有一颗心。我不知道怎么选，头都大了。
Zuótiān yǒu sān wèi xiānsheng gēn wǒ qiúhūn! Sān wèi! Tāmen dōu hěn hǎo, kěshì wǒ zhǐyǒu yì kē xīn. Wǒ bù zhīdào zěnme xuǎn, tóu dōu dà le.
Yesterday three gentlemen asked me to marry them! Three! They're all lovely, but I have only one heart. I don't know how to choose. My head is spinning.
- Mina 三位都向你求婚？哈哈，我的露西真受欢迎。那你选了谁？
Sān wèi dōu xiàng nǐ qiúhūn? Hāhā, wǒ de Lùxī zhēn shòu huānyíng. Nà nǐ xuǎn le shuí?
Three? Ha, my Lucy is so popular. So who did you choose?
- Lucy 亚瑟！他又高又帅，笑起来像太阳。别的两位，我只能说对不起。
Yàsè! Tā yòu gāo yòu shuài, xiào qǐlái xiàng tàiyáng. Bié de liǎng wèi, wǒ zhǐnéng shuō duìbùqǐ.
Arthur! He's tall and handsome, and his smile is like the sun. To the other two, I can only say I'm sorry.
- Mina 你选得对。他是个好人。我真的为你高兴。
Nǐ xuǎn de duì. Tā shì gè hǎorén. Wǒ zhēnde wèi nǐ gāoxìng.
You chose well. He's a good man. I'm truly happy for you.
- Lucy 可是我晚上睡不好。早上起来，我的鞋上常常有泥。我晚上一定梦游了！
Kěshì wǒ wǎnshang shuì bù hǎo. Zǎoshang qǐlái, wǒ de xié shàng chángcháng yǒu ní. Wǒ wǎnshang yídìng mèngyóu le!
But I sleep badly at night. In the morning there's often mud on my shoes. I must have been walking in my sleep!
- Mina 你自己不知道吗？那太奇怪了。咦，你看！天忽然黑了！海上的浪好大！
Nǐ zìjǐ bù zhīdào ma? Nà tài qíguài le. Yí, nǐ kàn! Tiān hūrán hēi le! Hǎi shàng de làng hǎo dà!
You don't know it yourself? That's so strange. Oh, look! The sky suddenly turned dark! The waves are huge!
- Lucy 快看那边！有一条大船，风把它吹进港口了！
Kuài kàn nàbiān! Yǒu yì tiáo dà chuán, fēng bǎ tā chuī jìn gǎngkǒu le!
Look over there! A big ship, and the wind is blowing it into the harbor!
- Mina 它的帆都破了！船上怎么没有人开船？
Tā de fān dōu pò le! Chuán shàng zěnme méiyǒu rén kāichuán?
Its sails are torn! Why is nobody steering it?
- Lucy 船上一个人也没有！船员都去哪儿了？
Chuán shàng yí gè rén yě méiyǒu! Chuányuán dōu qù nǎr le?
There isn't a single person on board! Where did the crew go?
- Mina 露西，你看那边！有什么东西从船上跳下来了！
Lùxī, nǐ kàn nàbiān! Yǒu shénme dōngxi cóng chuán shàng tiào xiàlái le!
Lucy, look over there! Something just jumped down from the ship!
- Lucy 是一条狗！好大的黑狗！比我见过的所有狗都大！
Shì yì tiáo gǒu! Hǎo dà de hēi gǒu! Bǐ wǒ jiàn guò de suǒyǒu gǒu dōu dà!
It's a dog! A huge black dog! Bigger than any dog I've ever seen!
- Mina 它跳到沙滩上，跑进黑暗里了……

It jumped onto the sand and ran off into the darkness...
- Lucy 它跑得像影子一样快。好可怕，我们回家吧。
Tā pǎo de xiàng yǐngzi yíyàng kuài. Hǎo kěpà, wǒmen huíjiā ba.
It ran as fast as a shadow. It's so frightening. Let's go home.
- Mina 好。你看船头上的名字：德米特号。这条船是从哪儿来的？
Hǎo. Nǐ kàn chuántóu shàng de míngzi: Démǐtè hào. Zhè tiáo chuán shì cóng nǎr lái de?
Yes. Look at the name on the bow: the Demeter. Where did this ship come from?
- Lucy 我不想知道。我只想回家睡觉，睡一个好觉。
Wǒ bù xiǎng zhīdào. Wǒ zhǐ xiǎng huíjiā shuìjiào, shuì yí gè hǎojué.
I don't want to know. I just want to go home and have a good night's sleep.
- Mina 别怕，今晚我睡在你的房间里。有我在，你不会有事。
Bié pà, jīnwǎn wǒ shuì zài nǐ de fángjiān lǐ. Yǒu wǒ zài, nǐ bú huì yǒu shì.
Don't be afraid. Tonight I'll sleep in your room. With me there, you'll be fine.
- Lucy 谢谢你，米娜。有你在，我就不怕了。
Xièxie nǐ, Mǐnà. Yǒu nǐ zài, wǒ jiù bú pà le.
Thank you, Mina. With you there, I'm not afraid.
- Narrator 半夜里，米娜醒了。房间里静得可怕。
Bànyè lǐ, Mǐnà xǐng le. Fángjiān lǐ jìng de kěpà.
In the middle of the night, Mina woke up. The room was terribly quiet.
- Mina 露西？你睡着了吗？咦……床上没有人！
Lùxī? Nǐ shuìzháo le ma? Yí… chuáng shàng méiyǒu rén!
Lucy? Are you asleep? Oh... there's nobody in the bed!
- Mina 被子掉在地上，窗户开着。她的鞋还在这儿，可是披肩不见了。
Bèizi diào zài dì shàng, chuānghu kāizhe. Tā de xié hái zài zhèr, kěshì pījiān bú jiàn le.
The blanket has fallen on the floor, and the window is open. Her shoes are still here, but her shawl is gone.
- Mina 她说过她会梦游。可是风这么大，她会去哪儿呢？
Tā shuō guò tā huì mèngyóu. Kěshì fēng zhème dà, tā huì qù nǎr ne?
She said she walks in her sleep. But with a wind this strong, where could she have gone?
- Mina 她一个人，只穿着睡衣……她会不会去了海边？
Tā yí gè rén, zhǐ chuānzhe shuìyī… tā huì bú huì qù le hǎibiān?
She's alone, in only her nightdress... Could she have gone to the sea?
- Mina 露西！露西！你在哪儿？
Lùxī! Lùxī! Nǐ zài nǎr?
Lucy! Lucy! Where are you?
- Mina 没有人回答。不行，我一定要去找她！拿上灯，披上外衣！
Méiyǒu rén huídá. Bùxíng, wǒ yídìng yào qù zhǎo tā! Ná shàng dēng, pī shàng wàiyī!
No answer. No, I have to go and find her! Take the lamp, throw on my coat!
- Mina 我记得，她最喜欢山上的那张长椅。那里能看见海，也能看见旧教堂……
Wǒ jìde, tā zuì xǐhuan shān shàng de nà zhāng chángyǐ. Nàlǐ néng kànjiàn hǎi, yě néng kànjiàn jiù jiàotáng…
I remember, her favorite spot is the bench on the hill. You can see the sea from there, and the old church...
- Mina 露西，你千万别有事！求求你，等我！我来了！
Lùxī, nǐ qiānwàn bié yǒushì! Qiúqiú nǐ, děng wǒ! Wǒ lái le!
Lucy, please be all right! Please, wait for me! I'm coming!
