Come on down, monkey! If you wanted a dumpling, you only had to ask.
- The Monkey 问你？你真的会给我吗？
Wèn nǐ? Nǐ zhēnde huì gěi wǒ ma?

You're a really good guy… Sorry. Here's your pouch back.
- The Monkey 好吃！真是日本第一！我也跟你去鬼岛！
Hǎochī! Zhēn shì Rìběn dì yī! Wǒ yě gēn nǐ qù Guǐ Dǎo!
Yum! It really is the best in Japan! I'm coming to Demon Island with you too!
- The Dog 什么？他也去？他是坏猴子！
Shénme? Tā yě qù? Tā shì huài hóuzi!
What? He's coming too? He's a bad monkey!
- The Monkey 我不坏！你才坏，你这只饿狗！
Wǒ bú huài! Nǐ cái huài, nǐ zhè zhī è gǒu!
I'm not bad! You're the bad one, you greedy dog!
- Narrator 他们走在山路上。小狗和猴子，一直在吵。
Tāmen zǒu zài shān lù shang. Xiǎogǒu hé hóuzi, yìzhí zài chǎo.
They walked on along the mountain path, and the dog and the monkey squabbled the whole way.
- The Dog 我是桃太郎的第一个朋友！我走前边！
Wǒ shì Táo Tàiláng de dì yī gè péngyou! Wǒ zǒu qiánbian!
I'm Momotaro's first friend! I go in front!
- The Monkey 我走得比你快！我走前边！
Wǒ zǒu de bǐ nǐ kuài! Wǒ zǒu qiánbian!
I walk faster than you! I go in front!
- The Dog 汪！我走前边！
Wāng! Wǒ zǒu qiánbian!
Woof! I go in front!
- The Monkey 不！我走前边！
Bù! Wǒ zǒu qiánbian!
No! I go in front!
- The Pheasant 别吵了！别吵了！你们两个，好吵啊！
Bié chǎo le! Bié chǎo le! Nǐmen liǎng gè, hǎo chǎo a!
Stop squabbling! Stop it! You two are so noisy!
- The Dog 你是谁？
Nǐ shì shéi?
Who are you?
- The Pheasant 我是山鸡。我飞得高，看得远！你们要去鬼岛吗？
Wǒ shì shānjī. Wǒ fēi de gāo, kàn de yuǎn! Nǐmen yào qù Guǐ Dǎo ma?
I'm a pheasant. I fly high and I see far! Are you going to Demon Island?
- Momotaro 是啊！山鸡，你也吃一个团子吧？
Shì a! Shānjī, nǐ yě chī yí gè tuánzi ba?
That's right! Pheasant, won't you have a dumpling too?
- The Pheasant 谢谢！真好吃。以后，我在天上给你们看路。我走最前边！
Xièxie! Zhēn hǎochī. Yǐhòu, wǒ zài tiānshàng gěi nǐmen kàn lù. Wǒ zǒu zuì qiánbian!
Thank you! Delicious. From now on, I'll watch the road for you from the sky. And I go at the very front!
- Momotaro 好！一个团子，一个朋友。现在，我有三个朋友了！
Hǎo! Yí gè tuánzi, yí gè péngyou. Xiànzài, wǒ yǒu sān gè péngyou le!
Wonderful! One dumpling, one friend. Now I have three friends!
- Narrator 他们来到海边，坐上了一条小船。
Tāmen láidào hǎi biān, zuò shàng le yì tiáo xiǎo chuán.
They came down to the shore and climbed into a little boat.
- The Monkey 看我的！我来开船！小狗，你坐好，别动！
Kàn wǒ de! Wǒ lái kāi chuán! Xiǎogǒu, nǐ zuò hǎo, bié dòng!
Watch this! I'll steer! Doggy, sit tight and don't move!
- The Dog 汪……我不动。我……我不喜欢海。
Wāng… wǒ bú dòng. Wǒ… wǒ bù xǐhuan hǎi.
Woof… I'm not moving. I… I don't like the sea.
- Narrator 过了很久，他们到了鬼岛。鬼岛的门，又高又大。
Guò le hěn jiǔ, tāmen dào le Guǐ Dǎo. Guǐ Dǎo de mén, yòu gāo yòu dà.
After a long while, they reached Demon Island. Its gate was tall and huge.
- The Pheasant 我飞得高！我先飞进去看看！
Wǒ fēi de gāo! Wǒ xiān fēi jìnqù kànkan!
I fly high! I'll fly in first and take a look!
- Momotaro 山鸡，小心！
Shānjī, xiǎoxīn!
Careful, Pheasant!
- The Pheasant 不好了！门里边……有一百个鬼！
Bù hǎo le! Mén lǐbian… yǒu yìbǎi gè guǐ!
Oh no! Behind the gate… there are a hundred ogres!
- The Dog 一……一百个？
Yì… yìbǎi gè?
A… a hundred?
- The Monkey 小狗，你怕了？
Xiǎogǒu, nǐ pà le?
What's the matter, doggy? Scared?
- The Dog 我不怕！我……我有一点儿冷！
Wǒ bú pà! Wǒ… wǒ yǒu yìdiǎnr lěng!
I'm not scared! I'm… I'm just a little cold!
- The Ogre King 谁？谁在外边？我闻到了人的味道！
Shéi? Shéi zài wàibian? Wǒ wéndào le rén de wèidao!
Who's that? Who's out there? I smell a human!
