The Nose That Grew

The girl with blue hair turns out to be a fairy, and she asks Pinocchio one simple question. His answer does something very strange to his nose.

Yuánlái, nàge lán tóufa de nǚhái shì yí gè xiānnǚ. Tā jiào lái yì zhī dà niǎo, bǎ Pǐnuòcáo jiù le xiàlái.
The girl with blue hair was really a fairy. She called a big bird, and it set Pinocchio free.
- Pinocchio 我……我在哪儿？你是谁？
Wǒ… wǒ zài nǎr? Nǐ shì shéi?
Where... where am I? Who are you?
- The Fairy with Blue Hair 别怕，我是住在这里的仙女。你病了，快喝了这个药吧。
Bié pà, wǒ shì zhù zài zhèlǐ de xiānnǚ. Nǐ bìng le, kuài hē le zhège yào ba.
Don't be afraid. I'm the fairy who lives here. You're sick. Come on, drink this medicine.

Tài kǔ le, wǒ bù hē! … Xiān gěi wǒ yí kuài táng, wǒ zài hē!
It's too bitter, I won't drink it! ...Give me a piece of candy first, then I'll drink it!
- Narrator 匹诺曹吃了糖，喝了药，很快就好了。他跟仙女说了坏人的事。
Pǐnuòcáo chī le táng, hē le yào, hěn kuài jiù hǎo le. Tā gēn xiānnǚ shuō le huàirén de shì.
Pinocchio ate the candy, drank the medicine, and was soon well again. He told the fairy all about the robbers.
- The Fairy with Blue Hair 那你的四个金币呢？现在在哪儿？
Nà nǐ de sì gè jīnbì ne? Xiànzài zài nǎr?
And what about your four gold coins? Where are they now?
- Pinocchio 金币？我……我丢了。
Jīnbì? Wǒ… wǒ diū le.
The coins? I... I lost them.
- Narrator 他刚说完，鼻子就长长了一点儿。其实，金币就在他的衣服里。
Tā gāng shuō wán, bízi jiù zhǎng cháng le yìdiǎnr. Qíshí, jīnbì jiù zài tā de yīfu lǐ.
The moment he said it, his nose grew a little longer. The coins were really tucked inside his clothes.
- The Fairy with Blue Hair 丢了？在哪儿丢的？
Diū le? Zài nǎr diū de?
Lost them? Where did you lose them?
- Pinocchio 在……在路上。
Zài… zài lù shang.
On... on the road.
- The Fairy with Blue Hair 路上？那我们去找吧。在这里，丢了的东西都能找到。
Lù shang? Nà wǒmen qù zhǎo ba. Zài zhèlǐ, diū le de dōngxi dōu néng zhǎodào.
On the road? Then let's go and look. Around here, anything you lose can always be found.
- Pinocchio 啊，我想起来了！我没丢……我喝药的时候，把金币吃下去了！
A, wǒ xiǎng qǐlái le! Wǒ méi diū… wǒ hē yào de shíhou, bǎ jīnbì chī xiàqù le!
Oh, now I remember! I didn't lose them... I swallowed them when I drank the medicine!
- Narrator 这一次，鼻子长得很长很长，一直长到了窗户外面。
Zhè yí cì, bízi zhǎng de hěn cháng hěn cháng, yìzhí zhǎng dào le chuānghu wàimiàn.
This time his nose grew longer and longer, until it poked right out of the window.
- Pinocchio 我的鼻子！我转不了身！门也出不去了！
Wǒ de bízi! Wǒ zhuǎn bù liǎo shēn! Mén yě chū bú qù le!
My nose! I can't turn around! I can't even get out the door!
- The Fairy with Blue Hair 哈哈哈！匹诺曹，你说谎了。你一说谎，鼻子就会变长！
Hāhāhā! Pǐnuòcáo, nǐ shuōhuǎng le. Nǐ yì shuōhuǎng, bízi jiù huì biàn cháng!
Ha ha ha! Pinocchio, you told a lie. Every time you lie, your nose grows longer!
- The Fairy with Blue Hair 有的谎话腿很短，有的谎话鼻子很长。你的，是鼻子长的那一种！
Yǒu de huǎnghuà tuǐ hěn duǎn, yǒu de huǎnghuà bízi hěn cháng. Nǐ de, shì bízi cháng de nà yì zhǒng!
Some lies have short legs, and some lies have long noses. Yours are the long-nose kind!
- Pinocchio 对不起，对不起！我再也不说谎了，我保证！
Duìbuqǐ, duìbuqǐ! Wǒ zài yě bù shuōhuǎng le, wǒ bǎozhèng!
I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I'll never lie again, I promise!
- Narrator 仙女拍了拍手。一千只啄木鸟飞了进来，一点一点地把长鼻子变短了。
Xiānnǚ pāi le pāi shǒu. Yìqiān zhī zhuómùniǎo fēi le jìnlái, yìdiǎn yìdiǎn de bǎ cháng bízi biàn duǎn le.
The fairy clapped her hands. A thousand woodpeckers flew in and, peck by peck, made the long nose short again.
- Pinocchio 我的鼻子回来了！谢谢你，仙女！
Wǒ de bízi huílái le! Xièxie nǐ, xiānnǚ!
My nose is back! Thank you, Fairy!
- The Fairy with Blue Hair 匹诺曹，我已经叫人去找你爸爸了。今天晚上，他就会来这里。
Pǐnuòcáo, wǒ yǐjīng jiào rén qù zhǎo nǐ bàba le. Jīntiān wǎnshang, tā jiù huì lái zhèlǐ.
Pinocchio, I've already sent for your father. He'll be here this evening.
- Pinocchio 爸爸要来了？太好了！我去路上接他！
Bàba yào lái le? Tài hǎo le! Wǒ qù lù shang jiē tā!
Papa's coming? Hooray! I'll go and meet him on the road!
- Narrator 匹诺曹跑到那棵大树下面，又看见了狐狸和猫。
Pǐnuòcáo pǎo dào nà kē dà shù xiàmiàn, yòu kànjiàn le húli hé māo.
Pinocchio ran down to the big tree, and there, once again, were the Fox and the Cat.
- The Fox 匹诺曹，我们的好朋友！你的四个金币还在吗？
Pǐnuòcáo, wǒmen de hǎo péngyou! Nǐ de sì gè jīnbì hái zài ma?
Pinocchio, our dear friend! Have you still got your four gold coins?
- Pinocchio 还在啊。昨天晚上，你们去哪儿了？
Hái zài a. Zuótiān wǎnshang, nǐmen qù nǎr le?
I've still got them. Where did you two go last night?
- The Fox 我们一直在奇迹田等你啊！走吧，奇迹田就在前面！
Wǒmen yìzhí zài Qíjì Tián děng nǐ a! Zǒu ba, Qíjì Tián jiù zài qiánmiàn!
We were waiting for you at the Field of Miracles the whole time! Come on, the field is just up ahead!
- The Cat 就在前面！就在前面！
Jiù zài qiánmiàn! Jiù zài qiánmiàn!
Just up ahead! Just up ahead!
- Pinocchio 爸爸晚上才来……好吧，我先去种金币！
Bàba wǎnshang cái lái… Hǎo ba, wǒ xiān qù zhòng jīnbì!
Papa won't be here till tonight... Oh, all right. I'll go plant my coins first!
- Narrator 在奇迹田里，匹诺曹把四个金币种在地里，又给了它们一点儿水和盐。
Zài Qíjì Tián lǐ, Pǐnuòcáo bǎ sì gè jīnbì zhòng zài dì lǐ, yòu gěi le tāmen yìdiǎnr shuǐ hé yán.
In the Field of Miracles, Pinocchio planted his four gold coins in the ground and gave them a little water and a pinch of salt.
- The Fox 好了！你先走吧，二十分钟以后再回来！
Hǎo le! Nǐ xiān zǒu ba, èrshí fēnzhōng yǐhòu zài huílái!
There! Off you go now, and come back in twenty minutes!
- Pinocchio 二十分钟以后，我就有一千个金币了！
Èrshí fēnzhōng yǐhòu, wǒ jiù yǒu yìqiān gè jīnbì le!
In twenty minutes, I'll have a thousand gold coins!
- The Fox 二十分钟以后……他就知道了。
Èrshí fēnzhōng yǐhòu… tā jiù zhīdào le.
In twenty minutes... he'll find out.
