The Friar at the River
河边的修士
A round, laughing friar offers to carry Robin across his river, and Robin learns what happens in the middle. That night a sad young stranger arrives with terrible news.

Sēnlín lǐ yǒu yì tiáo kuān hé. Hé biān zhànzhe yí wèi yòu ǎi yòu pàng de xiūshì.
In the forest there was a wide river. A short, round friar stood on its bank.
- Robin Hood 喂，修士！我想过河。河水深不深？
Wèi, xiūshì! Wǒ xiǎng guò hé. Hé shuǐ shēn bù shēn?
Hey, friar! I want to cross. Is the river deep?
- Friar Tuck 不深，不深！可是河里的石头很滑，你的鞋也会湿。
Bù shēn, bù shēn! Kěshì hé lǐ de shítou hěn huá, nǐ de xié yě huì shī.
Not deep, not deep! But the stones are slippery, and your shoes will get wet.

Let me carry you across. A friar's back is a boat!
- Robin Hood 哈哈，好！我第一次坐修士这条船。
Hāhā, hǎo! Wǒ dì-yī cì zuò xiūshì zhè tiáo chuán.
Ha ha, all right! My first time riding in a friar boat.
- Narrator 修士背起罗宾，走进河里。水一直到他的肚子。
Xiūshì bēi qǐ Luóbīn, zǒu jìn hé lǐ. Shuǐ yìzhí dào tā de dùzi.
The friar lifted Robin onto his back and waded into the river. The water came up to his belly.
- Friar Tuck 哎哟，你可不轻！你的口袋里，是不是有一块大石头？
Āiyō, nǐ kě bù qīng! Nǐ de kǒudai lǐ, shì bu shì yǒu yí kuài dà shítou?
Oof, you're not light! Do you have a big rock in your pocket?
- Robin Hood 是箭，修士。一百支呢。
Shì jiàn, xiūshì. Yìbǎi zhī ne.
Arrows, friar. A hundred of them.
- Friar Tuck 到了！过河，是不是很容易？
Dào le! Guò hé, shì bu shì hěn róngyì?
Here we are! Crossing a river is easy, isn't it?
- Robin Hood 你的背又宽又软，像一张大床。我在上面，差点儿睡着了！
Nǐ de bèi yòu kuān yòu ruǎn, xiàng yì zhāng dà chuáng. Wǒ zài shàngmiàn, chàdiǎnr shuìzháo le!
Your back is wide and soft, like a big bed. I almost fell asleep up there!
- Robin Hood 容易。不过，你再背我回去吧！我想再坐一次船。
Róngyì. Búguò, nǐ zài bēi wǒ huíqù ba! Wǒ xiǎng zài zuò yí cì chuán.
Easy. Now carry me back! I want another boat ride.
- Friar Tuck 好啊！今天是个好日子。
Hǎo a! Jīntiān shì ge hǎo rìzi.
Gladly! Today is a good day.
- Friar Tuck 抓紧了，小朋友。河中间的水，可是很凉的。
Zhuājǐn le, xiǎopéngyou. Hé zhōngjiān de shuǐ, kě shì hěn liáng de.
Hold on tight, little friend. The water in the middle is very cold.
- Friar Tuck 哎呀！我的脚滑了！
Āiyā! Wǒ de jiǎo huá le!
Oh dear! My foot slipped!
- Robin Hood 啊！好冷！
A! Hǎo lěng!
Aah! So cold!
- Friar Tuck 冷不冷？现在你洗得很干净了！
Lěng bu lěng? Xiànzài nǐ xǐ de hěn gānjìng le!
Cold, isn't it? Now you're nice and clean!
- Robin Hood 哈哈哈！你赢了，修士。我请你吃饭！
Hāhāhā! Nǐ yíng le, xiūshì. Wǒ qǐng nǐ chīfàn!
Ha ha ha! You win, friar. I'll buy you dinner!
- Friar Tuck 好！不过我先说，我一个人吃三个人的饭，你的钱包要小心了！
Hǎo! Búguò wǒ xiān shuō, wǒ yí gè rén chī sān gè rén de fàn, nǐ de qiánbāo yào xiǎoxīn le!
Good! But I'll warn you, I eat enough for three men, so watch out for your purse!
- Narrator 那天晚上，森林里的火很大。修士做了一大块肉。
Nà tiān wǎnshang, sēnlín lǐ de huǒ hěn dà. Xiūshì zuò le yí dà kuài ròu.
That night the forest fire burned high. The friar cooked a huge piece of meat.
- Friar Tuck 吃吧，吃吧！这是国王的鹿肉。别告诉警长！
Chī ba, chī ba! Zhè shì guówáng de lùròu. Bié gàosu jǐngzhǎng!
Eat, eat! This is the king's venison. Don't tell the Sheriff!
- Little John 好吃！修士，你为什么住在河边？
Hǎochī! Xiūshì, nǐ wèishénme zhù zài hé biān?
Delicious! Friar, why do you live by the river?
- Friar Tuck 我在教堂里吃得太多，他们说我该自己住。
Wǒ zài jiàotáng lǐ chī de tài duō, tāmen shuō wǒ gāi zìjǐ zhù.
I ate too much at the church, so they said I should live on my own.
- Robin Hood 修士，你力气大，吃得好，还会开玩笑。来我们这儿吧！
Xiūshì, nǐ lìqi dà, chī de hǎo, hái huì kāi wánxiào. Lái wǒmen zhèr ba!
Friar, you're strong, you eat well, and you love a joke. Come join us!
- Friar Tuck 做好人，吃好肉……好，我来！我叫塔克。
Zuò hǎorén, chī hǎo ròu… hǎo, wǒ lái! Wǒ jiào Tǎkè.
Be good, eat good meat... yes, I'm in! My name is Tuck.
- Robin Hood 太好了！现在我们有四个人：一个大个子，一个胖修士，一个红衣人，还有我！
Tài hǎo le! Xiànzài wǒmen yǒu sì gè rén: yí gè dà gèzi, yí gè pàng xiūshì, yí gè hóng yī rén, hái yǒu wǒ!
Wonderful! Now there are four of us: a big man, a fat friar, a man in red, and me!
- Little John 四个人，一头鹿。明天还得再找一头。
Sì ge rén, yì tóu lù. Míngtiān hái děi zài zhǎo yì tóu.
Four men, one deer. Tomorrow we'll need another.
- Friar Tuck 我知道哪儿有。国王的森林里，鹿可多了！
Wǒ zhīdào nǎr yǒu. Guówáng de sēnlín lǐ, lù kě duō le!
I know where. The king's forest is full of deer!
- Little John 那好。明天你带路，我带木棍，罗宾带弓，威尔带他的红衣服！
Nà hǎo. Míngtiān nǐ dàilù, wǒ dài mùgùn, Luóbīn dài gōng, Wēi'ěr dài tā de hóng yīfu!
Fine. Tomorrow you lead, I bring my staff, Robin brings his bow, and Will brings his red tunic!
- Narrator 忽然，树林里走出一个年轻人，手里抱着一把琴。
Hūrán, shùlín lǐ zǒu chū yí gè niánqīng rén, shǒu lǐ bàozhe yì bǎ qín.
Suddenly a young man walked out of the trees, holding a little harp.
- Allan-a-Dale 对不起……请问，哪一位是罗宾汉？
Duìbuqǐ… qǐngwèn, nǎ yí wèi shì Luóbīnhàn?
Excuse me... which of you is Robin Hood?
- Robin Hood 我就是。你有什么事？
Wǒ jiù shì. Nǐ yǒu shénme shì?
That's me. What do you need?
- Allan-a-Dale 我叫艾伦。我爱的人，明天就要结婚了。
Wǒ jiào Àilún. Wǒ ài de rén, míngtiān jiù yào jiéhūn le.
My name is Allan. The girl I love is getting married tomorrow.
- Robin Hood 结婚？那不是好事吗？
Jiéhūn? Nà bú shì hǎoshì ma?
Married? Isn't that good news?
- Allan-a-Dale 不是。她要嫁给一个又老又有钱的骑士……可她爱的人，是我。
Bú shì. Tā yào jià gěi yí gè yòu lǎo yòu yǒu qián de qíshì… kě tā ài de rén, shì wǒ.
No. She has to marry an old, rich knight... but the man she loves is me.
