The Tiger and the Buffalo

Shere Khan waits in a narrow valley. Mowgli has no claws or fangs, but he has a herd of buffalo and a plan.

Máokèlì zhù zài cūnzi lǐ. Tā měitiān dài shuǐniú qù hé biān chī cǎo.
Mowgli lived in the village. Every day he took the buffalo to the river to graze.
- Grey Brother 毛克利！是我，灰兄弟！
Máokèlì! Shì wǒ, Huī xiōngdì!
Mowgli! It's me, Grey Brother!
- Mowgli 灰兄弟！你怎么来了？狼群好吗？
Huī xiōngdì! Nǐ zěnme lái le? Lángqún hǎo ma?
Grey Brother! What are you doing here? How is the pack?

Lángqún dōu hǎo. Nǐ ne? Cūnzi lǐ de rén duì nǐ hǎo ma?
The pack is fine. What about you? Are the people in the village kind to you?
- Mowgli 梅苏亚对我很好。可是有的人怕我，因为我从森林来。
Méisūyà duì wǒ hěn hǎo. Kěshì yǒu de rén pà wǒ, yīnwèi wǒ cóng sēnlín lái.
Messua is very kind to me. But some people are afraid of me because I come from the jungle.
- Grey Brother 还有一件事：谢尔汗在山谷里，他在等你。
Hái yǒu yí jiàn shì: Xiè'ěrhàn zài shān'gǔ lǐ, tā zài děng nǐ.
There is one more thing: Shere Khan is in the valley, waiting for you.
- Mowgli 他想让我当他的晚饭。我可不想！
Tā xiǎng ràng wǒ dāng tā de wǎnfàn. Wǒ kě bù xiǎng!
He wants me for his dinner. I don't want to be!
- Grey Brother 那怎么办？他又大，又快。
Nà zěnme bàn? Tā yòu dà, yòu kuài.
So what do we do? He's big and fast.
- Mowgli 他大，水牛更大。水牛有很多。
Tā dà, shuǐniú gèng dà. Shuǐniú yǒu hěn duō.
He's big, but buffalo are bigger. And there are many of them.
- Mowgli 山谷很窄，只有一条路。谢尔汗就睡在里面。
Shān'gǔ hěn zhǎi, zhǐ yǒu yì tiáo lù. Xiè'ěrhàn jiù shuì zài lǐmiàn.
The valley is narrow, with only one way through. Shere Khan is sleeping inside.
- Grey Brother 你想让水牛跑进山谷？
Nǐ xiǎng ràng shuǐniú pǎojìn shān'gǔ?
You want the buffalo to run into the valley?
- Mowgli 对！你在山上叫，我在山下叫。水牛就会跑。
Duì! Nǐ zài shān shàng jiào, wǒ zài shān xià jiào. Shuǐniú jiù huì pǎo.
Yes! You call from the hill, I'll call from below. The buffalo will run.
- Grey Brother 水牛……不会踩到我们吧？
Shuǐniú… bú huì cǎi dào wǒmen ba?
The buffalo... they won't step on us, will they?
- Mowgli 别怕！我每天和水牛在一起，它们听我的。
Bié pà! Wǒ měitiān hé shuǐniú zài yìqǐ, tāmen tīng wǒ de.
Don't worry! I'm with them every day, and they listen to me.
- Mowgli 跑！跑！都去山谷里！
Pǎo! Pǎo! Dōu qù shān'gǔ lǐ!
Run! Run! Everyone into the valley!
- Grey Brother 它们来了！好多好多水牛！
Tāmen lái le! Hǎo duō hǎo duō shuǐniú!
They're coming! So many buffalo!
- Mowgli 谢尔汗醒了！你听！
Xiè'ěrhàn xǐng le! Nǐ tīng!
Shere Khan is awake! Listen!
- Grey Brother 他想跑！可是路太窄了！
Tā xiǎng pǎo! Kěshì lù tài zhǎi le!
He's trying to run! But the path is too narrow!
- Mowgli ……你听。声音停了。
… Nǐ tīng. Shēngyīn tíng le.
... Listen. The sound has stopped.
- Grey Brother 他不在了。谢尔汗不会再来了。
Tā bú zài le. Xiè'ěrhàn bú huì zài lái le.
He is gone. Shere Khan will never come again.
- Mowgli 他做过很多坏事。可是……这一天，我也有点儿难过。
Tā zuò guo hěn duō huài shì. Kěshì… zhè yì tiān, wǒ yě yǒudiǎnr nánguò.
He did many bad things. But... today, I feel a little sad too.
- Bagheera 小青蛙！我听说了！全森林都在说你的名字！
Xiǎo qīngwā! Wǒ tīngshuō le! Quán sēnlín dōu zài shuō nǐ de míngzi!
Little frog! I heard! The whole jungle is saying your name!
- Mowgli 是灰兄弟和水牛帮了我。我一个人做不到。
Shì Huī xiōngdì hé shuǐniú bāng le wǒ. Wǒ yí gè rén zuò bú dào.
Grey Brother and the buffalo helped me. I couldn't have done it alone.
- Akela 谢尔汗不在了，森林安静了。毛克利，狼群请你回来。你是我们的兄弟。
Xiè'ěrhàn bú zài le, sēnlín ānjìng le. Máokèlì, lángqún qǐng nǐ huílái. Nǐ shì wǒmen de xiōngdi.
Shere Khan is gone and the jungle is quiet. Mowgli, the pack asks you to come back. You are our brother.
- Mowgli 我想回来。可是村子里，梅苏亚在等我。
Wǒ xiǎng huílái. Kěshì cūnzi lǐ, Méisūyà zài děng wǒ.
I want to come back. But in the village, Messua is waiting for me.
- Bagheera 一个人，可以有两个家。
Yí gè rén, kěyǐ yǒu liǎng gè jiā.
A person can have two homes.
- Mowgli 那白天，我在村子里。晚上，我回森林。
Nà báitiān, wǒ zài cūnzi lǐ. Wǎnshang, wǒ huí sēnlín.
Then in the day, I'll be in the village. At night, I'll come back to the jungle.
- Akela 好。狼群的家，一直为你开着。
Hǎo. Lángqún de jiā, yìzhí wèi nǐ kāizhe.
Good. The pack's home will always be open to you.
- Bagheera 你先去看看大熊巴鲁吧。他找了很多蜂蜜，在等你。
Nǐ xiān qù kànkan dà xióng Bālǔ ba. Tā zhǎo le hěn duō fēngmì, zài děng nǐ.
First go and see Baloo. He has found lots of honey and is waiting for you.
- Mowgli 蜂蜜！走！我们是一家人，你们和我！
Fēngmì! Zǒu! Wǒmen shì yì jiā rén, nǐmen hé wǒ!
Honey! Let's go! We are one family, all of you and I!
