The Straw Man
稻草人
On the yellow road, Dorothy meets a scarecrow who wants a brain and who cannot walk straight. At dusk in the forest, something rusty groans.

Dorothy and Toto walked along the yellow road. The road was long and the sun was hot.
- Scarecrow 你好！小朋友！你好！
Nǐ hǎo! Xiǎo péngyou! Nǐ hǎo!
Hello! Little friend! Hello!
- Dorothy 啊！稻草也会说话？
À! Dàocǎo yě huì shuōhuà?
Oh! Straw can talk?

Okay! Don't move, I'll help you.
- Scarecrow 谢谢你！我的腿都不会走了！
Xièxie nǐ! Wǒ de tuǐ dōu bú huì zǒu le!
Thank you! My legs forgot how to walk!
- Dorothy 你是谁？你怎么站在那儿？
Nǐ shì shéi? Nǐ zěnme zhàn zài nàr?
Who are you? Why were you standing up there?
- Scarecrow 我是稻草人。我的头里，只有草。
Wǒ shì dàocǎorén. Wǒ de tóu lǐ, zhǐyǒu cǎo.
I'm a scarecrow. There's only straw inside my head.
- Dorothy 只有草？
Zhǐyǒu cǎo?
Only straw?
- Scarecrow 是啊，我没有脑子，什么都不知道。鸟儿也不怕我！
Shì a, wǒ méiyǒu nǎozi, shénme dōu bù zhīdào. Niǎor yě bú pà wǒ!
Yes. I have no brain, so I don't know anything. Even the birds aren't afraid of me!
- Dorothy 没关系。我要去翡翠城，找巫师。
Méiguānxi. Wǒ yào qù Fěicuìchéng, zhǎo wūshī.
Never mind. I'm going to the Emerald City to find the Wizard.
- Scarecrow 巫师会给我脑子吗？我能跟你去吗？
Wūshī huì gěi wǒ nǎozi ma? Wǒ néng gēn nǐ qù ma?
Will the Wizard give me a brain? Can I come with you?
- Dorothy 当然可以！我们是朋友了！
Dāngrán kěyǐ! Wǒmen shì péngyou le!
Of course you can! We're friends now!
- Scarecrow 朋友！太好了！走吧！走吧！
Péngyou! Tài hǎo le! Zǒu ba! Zǒu ba!
Friends! How wonderful! Let's go! Let's go!
- Narrator 太阳下山了。他们走进了大树中间。
Tàiyáng xià shān le. Tāmen zǒu jìn le dà shù zhōngjiān.
The sun went down. They walked in among the tall trees.
- Scarecrow 哎哟！我又坐在地上了！
Āiyō! Wǒ yòu zuò zài dì shàng le!
Ouch! I'm sitting on the ground again!
- Dorothy 哈哈！小心一点，稻草人！
Hāhā! Xiǎoxīn yìdiǎn, dàocǎorén!
Ha ha! Be careful, Scarecrow!
- Scarecrow 我的脚不听话。这就是没有脑子的问题！
Wǒ de jiǎo bù tīnghuà. Zhè jiù shì méiyǒu nǎozi de wèntí!
My feet won't listen. That's what happens when you have no brain!
- Dorothy 你不累吗？我很累，也很饿。
Nǐ bú lèi ma? Wǒ hěn lèi, yě hěn è.
Aren't you tired? I'm tired, and I'm hungry too.
- Scarecrow 我不累。我不用睡觉，也不用吃饭。真好！
Wǒ bú lèi. Wǒ bú yòng shuìjiào, yě bú yòng chīfàn. Zhēn hǎo!
Not at all. I don't need to sleep, and I don't need to eat. Isn't that nice?
- Scarecrow 你累了吗？我可以走一个晚上！
Nǐ lèi le ma? Wǒ kěyǐ zǒu yí gè wǎnshang!
Are you tired? I could walk all night!
- Dorothy 嘘！你听！那是什么声音？
Xū! Nǐ tīng! Nà shì shénme shēngyīn?
Shh! Listen! What is that sound?
- Scarecrow 在那边！你看！
Zài nàbiān! Nǐ kàn!
Over there! Look!
- Dorothy 一个铁皮人！他站在那儿，不动。
Yí gè tiěpírén! Tā zhàn zài nàr, bú dòng.
A tin man! He's just standing there, not moving.
- Scarecrow 他是不是在睡觉？
Tā shì bu shì zài shuìjiào?
Is he sleeping?
- Dorothy 铁皮人先生，你没事吧？
Tiěpírén xiānsheng, nǐ méishì ba?
Mr. Tin Man, are you all right?
- Tin Woodman 我……能说话……可是别的都……动不了……
Wǒ… néng shuōhuà… kěshì bié de dōu… dòng bù liǎo…
I... can talk... but everything else... won't move...
- Dorothy 你要我帮你吗？
Nǐ yào wǒ bāng nǐ ma?
Do you want me to help you?
- Tin Woodman 请……请给我一点油！
Qǐng… qǐng gěi wǒ yìdiǎn yóu!
Please... please give me a little oil!
