Persephone finds a golden flower, and the ground opens. Her mother cannot find her, and the whole world grows cold.

In a spring garden there was a girl named Persephone. She loved flowers most of all.
- Persephone 妈妈！你看！我有新花了！
Māma! Nǐ kàn! Wǒ yǒu xīn huā le!
Mom! Look! I have new flowers!
- Demeter 真漂亮！我的小花儿，你真会找花。
Zhēn piàoliang! Wǒ de xiǎo huār, nǐ zhēn huì zhǎo huā.
How pretty! My little blossom, you're so good at finding flowers.

Yīnwèi wǒ shì dàdì nǚshén. Wǒ ài huā, yě ài nǐ.
Because I am the goddess of the earth. I love flowers, and I love you.
- Persephone 我去那边看花，好吗？那里有很多花！
Wǒ qù nàbiān kàn huā, hǎo ma? Nàlǐ yǒu hěn duō huā!
Can I go look at flowers over there? There are so many!
- Demeter 好，不要走远。
Hǎo, bú yào zǒu yuǎn.
Yes, but don't go far.
- Persephone 我很快回来！
Wǒ hěn kuài huílái!
I'll be right back!
- Persephone 看！这花是金的！
Kàn! Zhè huā shì jīn de!
Look! This flower is gold!
- Hades 别怕，珀耳塞福涅。
Bié pà, Pò'ěrsàifúniè.
Don't be afraid, Persephone.
- Persephone 你是谁？
Nǐ shì shéi?
Who are you?
- Hades 我是哈迪斯，地下的国王。
Wǒ shì Hādísī, dìxià de guówáng.
I am Hades, king of the world below.
- Hades 地下很黑，我一个人。请你来我家。
Dìxià hěn hēi, wǒ yí gè rén. Qǐng nǐ lái wǒ jiā.
It is dark below, and I am alone. Please come to my home.
- Persephone 不！妈妈！妈妈！
Bù! Māma! Māma!
No! Mom! Mom!
- Persephone 我要回家！我要妈妈！
Wǒ yào huíjiā! Wǒ yào māma!
I want to go home! I want my mom!
- Hades 这里没有花，没有太阳。我想有人和我在一起。
Zhèlǐ méiyǒu huā, méiyǒu tàiyáng. Wǒ xiǎng yǒu rén hé wǒ zài yìqǐ.
There are no flowers here, and no sun. I wanted someone to be with me.
- Hades 你饿吗？吃一点儿石榴吧。
Nǐ è ma? Chī yìdiǎnr shíliu ba.
Are you hungry? Have a little pomegranate.
- Persephone 我好饿……我吃六个石榴籽。
Wǒ hǎo è… wǒ chī liù gè shíliu zǐ.
I'm so hungry... I'll eat six pomegranate seeds.
- Hermes 哈迪斯！宙斯说，让她回家！
Hādísī! Zhòusī shuō, ràng tā huíjiā!
Hades! Zeus says let her go home!
- Hades 好。她可以回家。可是……
Hǎo. Tā kěyǐ huíjiā. Kěshì…
Very well. She may go home. But...
- Hades 她吃了六个石榴籽。
Tā chī le liù gè shíliu zǐ.
She ate six pomegranate seeds.
- Hades 吃了六个，就要在地下住六个月。
Chī le liù gè, jiù yào zài dìxià zhù liù gè yuè.
Six seeds means six months living below.
- Persephone 六个月？那其他六个月呢？
Liù gè yuè? Nà qítā liù gè yuè ne?
Six months? And the other six?
- Hades 其他六个月，你去和妈妈住。
Qítā liù gè yuè, nǐ qù hé māma zhù.
The other six months, you live with your mother.
- Demeter 珀耳塞福涅！你在哪儿？花都不开了！
Pò'ěrsàifúniè! Nǐ zài nǎr? Huā dōu bù kāi le!
Persephone! Where are you? The flowers won't bloom!
- Persephone 妈妈！妈妈！我回来了！
Māma! Māma! Wǒ huílái le!
Mom! Mom! I'm back!
- Demeter 我的女儿！看，花都开了！草也绿了！
Wǒ de nǚ'ér! Kàn, huā dōu kāi le! Cǎo yě lǜ le!
My daughter! Look, the flowers are all blooming! The grass is turning green again!
- Persephone 妈妈，冬天我要回地下。春天，我一定回来。
Māma, dōngtiān wǒ yào huí dìxià. Chūntiān, wǒ yídìng huílái.
Mom, in winter I must go back below. In spring, I'll always come back.
- Demeter 我会等你。你回来，春天就来了。
Wǒ huì děng nǐ. Nǐ huílái, chūntiān jiù lái le.
I'll wait for you. When you come back, spring comes.
- Hermes 好了，故事讲完了！我又要迟到了！
Hǎo le, gùshi jiǎng wán le! Wǒ yòu yào chídào le!
