The Farmer and the Bag
老农夫的办法
An old farmer says he cannot believe a big wolf fit in a small bag. Mr. Dongguo watches the wolf try to prove it, and a lesson is learned.

Lǎorenjia, Dōngguō xiānsheng jiù le wǒ. Kěshì wǒ è le, wǒ yào chī tā.
Elder, Mr. Dongguo saved me. But I'm hungry, so I'll eat him.
- Mr. Dongguo 老人家，我是好人！我救了它！
Lǎorenjia, wǒ shì hǎorén! Wǒ jiù le tā!
Elder, I'm a good man! I saved him!

Láng, nǐ shuō nǐ zài shūbāo lǐ. Wǒ bú xìn.
Wolf, you say you were in that book bag. I don't believe it.
- The Old Farmer 你这么大。书包这么小。你怎么进去？
Nǐ zhème dà. Shūbāo zhème xiǎo. Nǐ zěnme jìnqù?
You are so big and the bag is so small. How did you get in?
- The Wolf 我不大！我很会进去！
Wǒ bú dà! Wǒ hěn huì jìnqù!
I'm not big! I'm very good at squeezing in!
- The Old Farmer 我不信。你做给我看看。
Wǒ bú xìn. Nǐ zuò gěi wǒ kànkan.
I don't believe you. Show me.
- The Wolf 你不信？好！我做给你看！
Nǐ bú xìn? Hǎo! Wǒ zuò gěi nǐ kàn!
You don't believe me? Fine! I'll show you!
- Mr. Dongguo 老人家……您是想……
Lǎorenjia… nín shì xiǎng…
Elder... are you trying to...
- The Old Farmer 嘘。先生，请把书包放在地上。
Xū. Xiānsheng, qǐng bǎ shūbāo fàng zài dìshang.
Shh. Sir, please put the bag on the ground.
- The Wolf 看好了！一，二，三！我进去了！
Kàn hǎo le! Yī, èr, sān! Wǒ jìnqù le!
Watch closely! One, two, three! I'm going in!
- The Wolf 看！我在里面！我是不是很小？
Kàn! Wǒ zài lǐmiàn! Wǒ shì bu shì hěn xiǎo?
Look! I'm inside! Aren't I small?
- The Old Farmer 是，很小。先生，快关上书包！
Shì, hěn xiǎo. Xiānsheng, kuài guānshang shūbāo!
Yes, very small. Sir, quick, close the bag!
- Mr. Dongguo 好！关上了！
Hǎo! Guānshang le!
Done! It's closed!
- The Wolf 喂！等一下！这不好玩！放我出去！
Wèi! Děng yí xià! Zhè bù hǎowán! Fàng wǒ chūqù!
Hey! Wait! This isn't fun! Let me out!
- The Old Farmer 先生，帮人是好事。可是你要看清楚。
Xiānsheng, bāng rén shì hǎo shì. Kěshì nǐ yào kànqīngchu.
Sir, helping people is good. But you must look carefully at who you help.
- Mr. Dongguo 我知道了。以后我帮人，先看清楚。
Wǒ zhīdào le. Yǐhòu wǒ bāng rén, xiān kàn qīngchu.
I understand. From now on, I'll look first.
- The Hunter 喂！先生！老人家！
Wèi! Xiānsheng! Lǎorenjia!
Hey! Sir! Elder!
- Mr. Dongguo 猎人！你回来了！
Lièrén! Nǐ huílái le!
Hunter! You're back!
- The Hunter 我找了很久，没有看到狼。你们呢？
Wǒ zhǎo le hěn jiǔ, méiyǒu kàndào láng. Nǐmen ne?
I looked for ages and never saw the wolf. Did you?
- The Old Farmer 在这儿呢。它就在书包里。
Zài zhèr ne. Tā jiù zài shūbāo lǐ.
Right here. He's in the bag.
- The Wolf 先生……对不起。放我出去吧，我不吃你了。
Xiānsheng… duìbuqǐ. Fàng wǒ chūqù ba, wǒ bù chī nǐ le.
Sir... I'm sorry. Let me out, I won't eat you.
- Mr. Dongguo 不行。我不能再相信你。
Bù xíng. Wǒ bù néng zài xiāngxìn nǐ.
No. I can't trust you again.
- The Hunter 谢谢你们！我带它去很远的山里。它不会再来了。
Xièxie nǐmen! Wǒ dài tā qù hěn yuǎn de shān lǐ. Tā bú huì zài lái le.
Thank you both! I'll take him deep into faraway mountains. He won't come back.
- The Wolf 山里？那儿有吃的吗？
Shān lǐ? Nàr yǒu chī de ma?
The mountains? Is there anything to eat there?
- Mr. Dongguo 老人家，我的书包要洗一洗了！
Lǎorenjia, wǒ de shūbāo yào xǐ yi xǐ le!
Elder, my bag needs a wash!
- The Old Farmer 哈哈！东郭先生，你是好人。好人要用眼睛看。
Hāhā! Dōngguō xiānsheng, nǐ shì hǎorén. Hǎorén yào yòng yǎnjing kàn.
Ha! Mr. Dongguo, you're a good man. A good man has to use his eyes.
- Mr. Dongguo 我会的。下次我先看，再帮。
Wǒ huì de. Xià cì wǒ xiān kàn, zài bāng.
I will. Next time I look first, then I help.
