Ten words for the room where the food happens: 厨房, 做饭, 锅, 碗, 盘子, 刀, 勺子, 筷子, 冰箱 and 洗. Each sits in 田字格 (tián zì gé) tracing grids with pinyin above, free to print or save as a PDF with no signup. The full word table with pinyin and meanings appears below.
The character tells you what it is made of
Kitchen nouns are unusually honest about their materials. 锅 takes 钅, the metal radical, because a wok is metal. 碗 takes 石, stone, from the days when a bowl was fired clay or stoneware. 筷 wears 竹, bamboo, across the top, which is exactly what chopsticks were cut from. 盘 in 盘子 sits on 皿, the old pictograph of a vessel, the same base you find under 盆 and 盒. Learn to spot those four components and a whole shelf of vocabulary becomes readable before you have memorized it.
Two dots or three?
冰箱 hides a distinction worth getting right early. 冰 (ice) begins with 冫, the two-dot ice radical, and so does 冷. 洗 begins with 氵, the three-drop water radical, and so do 汤 and 河. Two dots mean frozen, three mean liquid; writing 冰 with three drops is one of the most common slips in early handwriting.
Say the measure words aloud as you practice, because kitchen things all take different ones: 一把刀 and 一把勺子 for tools with a handle, 一双筷子 for a pair of chopsticks, 一口锅 for the wok. For extra repetition print blank 田字格 grid paper, or check any measure word with the Chinese measure word finder.

Frequently asked questions
Is this worksheet free to download as a PDF?
Yes. The Kitchen & Cooking worksheet is free to print or save as a PDF, with no account or email needed. Press Print / Download PDF: on a computer the PDF opens ready to print or save, and on a phone it goes to your share sheet. A4 or US Letter follows your country.
What level is this worksheet?
It suits learners from about HSK 3. That is an editorial estimate for the Kitchen & Cooking topic, not an official HSK word list, so a few of its 10 words may be harder. Each word prints with tone-marked pinyin and an English meaning to help.
Can I print copies for my class?
Yes. Print as many copies as you like — it's free. For a class set, press Change the words and open More options to add an answer key, a class line or a dictation page; the Student PDF leaves the key out. Test turns the sheet into a quiz.
Can I change the words or use traditional characters?
Yes. Press Change the words to open this sheet in the generator, then add, remove or replace words, up to 20 per sheet. Set Characters to Traditional to switch the whole sheet to traditional characters; a word with no verified traditional form stays as you typed it.
How should I practice with this worksheet?
Trace the gray guides first, saying each word aloud, then cover the model and write the characters from memory in the blank boxes. Scan the sheet's QR code or open the Practice tab to watch each stroke animate, trace it, then recall it without a guide. Revisit missed words a day or two later.
