Chinese Numbers 1-100 Worksheet

Counting in Chinese is a system you can finish learning in an afternoon. Ten characters carry the digits — 一 (yī), 二 (èr), 三 (sān), 四 (sì), 五 (wǔ), 六 (liù), 七 (qī), 八 (bā), 九 (jiǔ), 十 (shí) — and everything below 100 is assembled from them. This free printable page lays out all twelve entries in 田字格 (tián zì gé) grids with pinyin above each one, ready to print or save as a PDF without an account.

How 十 builds the rest

Ten is the hinge. Put a digit after 十 and you add: 十一 is eleven, 十五 is fifteen. Put a digit in front and you multiply: 二十 is twenty, 九十 is ninety. Use both positions at once and you reach everything between, so 三十五 is three tens plus five, thirty-five. At the top of the range 百 means hundred, and it does not stand alone: one hundred is written 一百. When a zero falls inside a number, 零 (líng) fills the hole, which is why 105 comes out as 一百零五.

二 or 两

Both mean two, and learners mix them up for months. 二 is the digit, used for reading numbers aloud (二十, 十二), for dates such as 二月, and for ordinals. 两 (liǎng) goes in front of a measure word instead: 两个人 for two people, 两杯茶 for two cups of tea. Tone changes matter here too, because 一 shifts tone according to the syllable that follows it; paste a phrase into the tone sandhi checker to hear which version you need.

Trace the guided strokes first, then rewrite each character in the empty squares while you say the number out loud. When you want longer drills, the printable Chinese worksheet generator will build a fresh sheet from any list of numbers you type in.

Frequently asked questions

Is this worksheet free to download as a PDF?

Yes. The Numbers 1 to 100 worksheet is free to print or save as a PDF, with no account or email needed. Press Print / Download PDF: on a computer the PDF opens ready to print or save, and on a phone it goes to your share sheet. A4 or US Letter follows your country.

What level is this worksheet?

It suits learners from about HSK 1. That is an editorial estimate for the Numbers 1 to 100 topic, not an official HSK word list, so a few of its 12 words may be harder. Each word prints with tone-marked pinyin and an English meaning to help.

Can I print copies for my class?

Yes. Print as many copies as you like — it's free. For a class set, press Change the words and open More options to add an answer key, a class line or a dictation page; the Student PDF leaves the key out. Test turns the sheet into a quiz.

Can I change the words or use traditional characters?

Yes. Press Change the words to open this sheet in the generator, then add, remove or replace words, up to 20 per sheet. Set Characters to Traditional to switch the whole sheet to traditional characters; a word with no verified traditional form stays as you typed it.

How should I practice with this worksheet?

Trace the gray guides first, saying each word aloud, then cover the model and write the characters from memory in the blank boxes. Scan the sheet's QR code or open the Practice tab to watch each stroke animate, trace it, then recall it without a guide. Revisit missed words a day or two later.
