Frequently asked questions
Are 的, 地, and 得 pronounced differently?
In these common structural uses, all three are normally unstressed de in Standard Mandarin. The distinction matters most in writing.
Do people always write 地 in casual messages?
Usage varies, and informal writing may simplify the distinction. This workbook teaches the standard functional split so you can read and write edited text clearly.
Can 得 have other pronunciations or meanings?
Yes. 得 can also be read dé or děi in other words and structures. This pack covers only the neutral-tone structural particle in complements such as 说得很好.

The workbook teaches the standard written distinction and limits 得 to the neutral-tone complement pattern; it does not claim that informal writing is perfectly uniform.
