Early the next morning, Gretel fetched the water and lit the fire. The big oven was already very hot.
- The Witch 格莱特，过来！你爬进炉子里，看看够不够热。
Géláitè, guòlái! Nǐ pá jìn lúzi lǐ, kànkan gòu bu gòu rè.
Gretel, come here! Crawl into the oven and see if it's hot enough.
- Gretel 她想把我也关进炉子里……我不能进去！
Tā xiǎng bǎ wǒ yě guān jìn lúzi lǐ… wǒ bù néng jìnqù!
She wants to shut me in the oven too… I mustn't go in!

Granny, I don't know how. The door's so small. How do I get in?
- The Witch 笨丫头！门这么大，我都能进去！看我的！
Bèn yātou! Mén zhème dà, wǒ dōu néng jìnqù! Kàn wǒ de!
Silly girl! It's so big, even I can get in! Watch me!
- Narrator 巫婆的头刚伸进炉子，格莱特就跑过去，用力一推！
Wūpó de tóu gāng shēn jìn lúzi, Géláitè jiù pǎo guòqù, yònglì yì tuī!
The moment the witch stuck her head into the oven, Gretel ran up behind her and pushed with all her might!
- Gretel 快关上铁门！好了……她出不来了！
Kuài guān shàng tiě mén! Hǎo le… tā chū bù lái le!
Shut the iron door, quick! There… she can't get out!
- Gretel 哥哥！哥哥！我们自由了！
Gēge! Gēge! Wǒmen zìyóu le!
Hansel! Hansel! We're free!
- Hansel 真的吗？格莱特，你做了什么？
Zhēn de ma? Géláitè, nǐ zuò le shénme?
Really? Gretel, what did you do?
- Gretel 她叫我爬进炉子。我说我不会，她就自己进去给我看！
Tā jiào wǒ pá jìn lúzi. Wǒ shuō wǒ bú huì, tā jiù zìjǐ jìnqù gěi wǒ kàn!
She told me to crawl into the oven. I said I didn't know how, so she went in herself to show me!
- Hansel 哈哈！她自己进去了？我的妹妹，你太了不起了！
Hāha! Tā zìjǐ jìnqù le? Wǒ de mèimei, nǐ tài liǎobuqǐ le!
Ha ha! She went in herself? Little sister, you're amazing!
- Narrator 格莱特打开笼子。汉赛尔跳了出来，两个人又笑又跳。
Géláitè dǎkāi lóngzi. Hànsài'ěr tiào le chūlái, liǎng gè rén yòu xiào yòu tiào.
Gretel opened the cage. Hansel sprang out, and the two of them laughed and danced for joy.
- Hansel 以前都是我有办法。这一次，是你的办法救了我！
Yǐqián dōu shì wǒ yǒu bànfǎ. Zhè yí cì, shì nǐ de bànfǎ jiù le wǒ!
I always used to be the one with a plan. This time, your plan saved me!
- Narrator 巫婆的房子里有很多大箱子，箱子里都是珍珠和宝石。
Wūpó de fángzi lǐ yǒu hěn duō dà xiāngzi, xiāngzi lǐ dōu shì zhēnzhū hé bǎoshí.
All around the witch's house stood big chests, and the chests were full of pearls and jewels.
- Hansel 你看！这些宝石比白石头好看多了！我多拿一点儿！
Nǐ kàn! Zhèxiē bǎoshí bǐ bái shítou hǎokàn duō le! Wǒ duō ná yìdiǎnr!
Look! These jewels are much prettier than white pebbles! I'll take a few more!
- Gretel 我也拿一些，带回家给爸爸！
Wǒ yě ná yìxiē, dài huí jiā gěi bàba!
I'll take some too, and bring them home for Father!
- Narrator 他们走了很久，来到一条大河边。
Tāmen zǒu le hěn jiǔ, lái dào yì tiáo dà hé biān.
They walked for a long time, until they came to a wide river.
- Hansel 没有桥，也没有船。我们怎么过去？
Méiyǒu qiáo, yě méiyǒu chuán. Wǒmen zěnme guòqù?
No bridge, and no boat. How do we get across?
- Gretel 你看，那里有一只白鸭子！小鸭子，请你带我们过河吧！
Nǐ kàn, nàlǐ yǒu yì zhī bái yāzi! Xiǎo yāzi, qǐng nǐ dài wǒmen guò hé ba!
Look, there's a white duck! Little duck, please carry us across the river!
- Hansel 它游过来了！格莱特，快上来，我们一起坐！
Tā yóu guòlái le! Géláitè, kuài shànglái, wǒmen yìqǐ zuò!
It's swimming over! Hop on, Gretel. We'll ride together!
- Gretel 不行，鸭子太小了。我们一个一个过去吧。
Bù xíng, yāzi tài xiǎo le. Wǒmen yí gè yí gè guòqù ba.
No, the duck's too small. Let's go across one at a time.
- Hansel 你是说……我太胖了？
Nǐ shì shuō… wǒ tài pàng le?
Are you saying… I'm too fat?
- Gretel 巫婆天天说，你一点儿也不胖！
Wūpó tiāntiān shuō, nǐ yìdiǎnr yě bú pàng!
The witch said every single day that you weren't fat at all!
- Narrator 白鸭子把他们一个一个带过了河。
Bái yāzi bǎ tāmen yí gè yí gè dài guò le hé.
The white duck carried them across the river, one at a time.
- Gretel 哥哥，你看！这条路我认识！前面就是我们家！
Gēge, nǐ kàn! Zhè tiáo lù wǒ rènshi! Qiánmiàn jiù shì wǒmen jiā!
Hansel, look! I know this path! Our house is just ahead!
- Hansel 爸爸！爸爸！我们回来了！
Bàba! Bàba! Wǒmen huílái le!
Father! Father! We're home!
- Father 汉赛尔！格莱特！孩子们，对不起……我每天都在想你们！
Hànsài'ěr! Géláitè! Háizimen, duìbuqǐ… wǒ měi tiān dōu zài xiǎng nǐmen!
Hansel! Gretel! Oh, children, I'm so sorry… I've thought of you every single day!
- Hansel 爸爸，后妈呢？
Bàba, hòumā ne?
Father, where's our stepmother?
- Father 她已经不在了。以后，家里只有我们三个人。
Tā yǐjīng bú zài le. Yǐhòu, jiā lǐ zhǐ yǒu wǒmen sān gè rén.
She's gone now. From now on, it's just the three of us.
- Gretel 爸爸，你看！这些都是宝石！我们以后不会再饿了！
Bàba, nǐ kàn! Zhèxiē dōu shì bǎoshí! Wǒmen yǐhòu bú huì zài è le!
Look, Father! These are all jewels! We'll never be hungry again!
- Father 这么多宝石！你们……你们是怎么回来的？
Zhème duō bǎoshí! Nǐmen… nǐmen shì zěnme huílái de?
So many jewels! How… how did you ever find your way back?
- Hansel 都是格莱特的好办法！是她救了我，也是她带我们回家！
Dōu shì Géláitè de hǎo bànfǎ! Shì tā jiù le wǒ, yě shì tā dài wǒmen huí jiā!
It was all Gretel's clever plan! She saved me, and she brought us home!
