NCEA Chinese (Mandarin) Practice: Levels 1, 2 and 3

NCEA is the school qualification in Aotearoa New Zealand, and Chinese (Mandarin) is offered at Levels 1, 2 and 3, usually in Years 11, 12 and 13. Internal tasks set by your teacher, such as interacting and presenting, sit alongside listening and reading.
Level 1 suits about HSK 1 to 2, Level 2 about HSK 2 to 3 and Level 3 about HSK 3 to 4. By the end of a level's book you have practised its interactions, listening and reading, and at Levels 2 and 3 a presentation and writing, all with model answers and free audio.

Frequently asked questions
Which NCEA Chinese book matches my year?
Level 1 is usually Year 11, at about HSK 1 to 2. Level 2 follows at about HSK 2 to 3, and Level 3 is usually Year 13, at about HSK 3 to 4.
Can these books replace my teacher's internal tasks?
No. Your teacher sets the real internal tasks. Use these pages to build the sentences you'll need and to practise the interactions, the presentation and the writing beforehand.
Is there audio for the listening practice?
