Pinyin and Tones Workbooks
By Mei Lin
Good Mandarin pronunciation comes down to two things: the sounds English doesn't have, and the tones. These workbooks take both slowly. The pronunciation map shows where your mouth and tongue go for sounds like j, q, x, zh, ch, sh and ü.
The tone-pair lab drills all twenty two-syllable tone combinations, because tones shift when words sit next to each other, and another workbook covers exactly those changes. There are books for spelling pinyin correctly, for learners who read zhuyin, and a sing-along tones book for children. Say everything out loud: pronunciation only improves when you hear yourself.
